Hi, my name is McKenna! I started at FSLA in October 2022. I am very talkative, sarcastic, and playful. I am a first time mom to the sweetest baby boy, Leo. Being Leo’s mama is by far my favorite thing! I adore our weekends and afternoons together and spending every second I can with him. A few of my hobbies include going to the beach, shopping, watching Youtube and Tiktok videos, and reading books! My family is my BIGGEST motivation! I am constantly looking for ways to better myself as a mom and grow as a teacher. My go to movies or shows are RV, Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch (the new one, no matter the time of year!), The Vampire Diaries/Originals, The Office, and New Girl. I'm also a sucker for Starbucks! As a teacher, coffee has very quickly become my love language! My favorite stores are Target and Amazon. My guilty pleasure is DEFINITELY shopping! I could send an entire day going to different stores and looking around at everything.
I grew up in Atlanta, GA. I moved to Defuniak Springs in 2019 to be closer to my mom, who moved here to teach in 2018. She is currently a Reading teacher at Fort Walton Beach High School. I had my son on Valentine's Day in 2022, which was the best Valentine's Day present I could've asked for. He also attends FSLA. Our favorite things to do as a family is going on walks, cuddling on the couch watching movies, or making dinner together! When we go out, we tend to spend our time bowling, trying new restaurants, or going to hang out at my moms!
About ME
My Experience
As of 2024, I am coming up on my 5th year of being a daycare teacher. I started working at a daycare in Georgia shortly before moving, and fell in love with it. Since then, I have gotten CPR certified, taken my 40 hour DCF classes, and completed my FCCPC Certification. One of my biggest goals for 2024 is to begin the process of earning my degree in Education! I am also working towards some more in depth training in the field this year.
Working With Children
I have always had a passion for being around kids and teaching. Ever since I was a little girl, I have wanted to be a teacher. I love learning new things myself and helping others learn. I love helping kids learn important life skills and traits that will help them later on in life. I also love being a part of a safe space and a learning environment for little ones. I always loved school growing up. I think that teachers have the biggest impact on children and people in general, and I strive to leave a positive impact on every one of the students in my class.
Working at FSLA!
I have really enjoyed my time at FSLA. After getting to know the staff, students, and parents, I can honestly say that I think I will be here for a while! I was extremely eager to start at FSLA when I spoke with Ms. Brittney and met some of our lovely teachers. I instantly knew that this was the place I needed to be. I fell in love with the students my first day and couldn’t wait to be in a classroom of my own. Since starting, I have not only had the opportunity to grow as a teacher, but also as a person. FSLA has granted me several opportunities to further my education in the field, along with putting some pretty amazing littles and parents in my life. I cannot wait to see what my future time at FSLA entails, as I have already grown to love the center.
